Rooted in family tradition, Maggie Maloney took the skills her grandmother taught her and began making pies as a hobby while living on the beaches of sunny Florida. In 2007, wanting to be closer to family, she traded sun for snow and moved west to the mountains of Vail Valley. Her "hobby" of baking fresh pies quickly turned into a business venture when people couldn't get enough of the homemade taste. Realizing she would need to coin a name for her new business, she went with simplicity, and Magpies was born.

  

With a passion for pie making, she realized the best homemade pies use fresh fruit and Maggie decided locally sourcing her ingredients would give her pies that extra authenticity. Using ingredients like Palisade peaches and cherries from Hotchkiss, CO, Maggie's pies are sure to be a crowd pleaser. In fact, most of her recipes won blue ribbons at local state fairs!

Pecan Pie

Carrying on the memory of her grandmother through pies, Maggie makes each pie by hand, and ensures each pie is crafted with lots of TLC. In 2012, she opened Magpies in Eagle, CO. Although she wishes she had a separate kitchen, Magpies does offer gluten free pies as well, and she makes sure to thoroughly clean all equipment to keep the pies safe for those following a gluten free diet. Not only is supporting local ingredients a priority, Magpies makes sure to recycle and run as environmentally friendly as possible.

  

With the holidays right around the corner, Magpies offers great flavors for your holiday table. Choices of Pumpkin, Pecan, Chocolate Pecan, Pumpkin Pecan, Apple, Apple Cranberry, and Apple Crumb Caramel will have you struggling to choose just one! Pumpkin, Pecan and Apple are holiday favorites. Orders for Magpies need to be placed with a sales rep by Wednesday, November 19th to ensure delivery by the week of Thanksgiving.

Year round, the top seller is always Strawberry Rhubarb. This pie plays on the nostalgia in people's hearts as they recall memories of their parents and grandparents making this flavor growing up. In the summer, Magpies signature pie is Blueberry Peach with a lattice crust.

After finding success through her pies, Maggie expresses her gratitude to the community that helped build her business by giving back whenever possible. Magpies are available locally at the farmers markets in the Vail Valley area, out of her shop in Eagle and now through SOURCE Local Foods.
